Big…

Goals
Have Goals! Live your life with goals. Cross things off your list, add new things, repeat! I’m an old man with ADHD who is always in chase of his next BHAG (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal). I might move quickly from topic to topic, but they all interweave together into this thing called life. I only have a certain number of years left on this rock, so I want to make the most of them each day. The quote by Heartsill Wilson on my home page has been close to my heart for decades.
“This is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place I have traded for it. I want it to be a gain, not a loss – good, not evil. Success, not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it.” – Heartsill Wilson
It is how I go about every single day of my life. I’m trading in days every single day I’m here. I want to trade them in for something good! I plan to wear out this body of mine doing things that matter.
Years ago, I used to compile an annual Christmas letter. It was lengthy…WAY too lengthy! I actually didn’t write it for the intended recipients. The letter was more for me just to recollect/remember the prior year’s events. The printing of many pages, the mailing, all the people getting it, opening it, and promptly throwing it in the trash (and making fun of me for being a nerd) were just a few extra, unnecessary steps. I eventually stopped doing it. Now, however, I’ve decided to go digital and I use this site to keep track of my journey (whatever it may be at the time). Same rules apply: 1) I don’t really expect anyone to care too much and 2) it is really for me to keep track of what matters to me. If you happen to care and want to talk about something…well, that would be great! Otherwise, when I’m old and can’t go like I can now maybe I’ll be able to relive some memories.
Another, and I think more important, reason for this site is to force me to get out and do stuff. I’ve done some cool things in my life but sometimes life just gets in the way and days, weeks, and months can fly by. If I’m not careful they are gone, and I don’t really have any cool memories to show for them. Sometimes I need help finding the next coolest hike ever, or the next longest bike ride of my life, or figuring out where my next travel location will be, etc. I think forcing myself to always be looking for an opportunity to add something cool to my “collection” will force me to go and do cool things.
On this site, I will mostly discuss the things I spend the most time on: Family, Fitness, Job, Biking, Hiking, Investing, Comics, Travel, Vehicles, Games, Movies, Books, Podcasts, and Music. These are not huge things for most people, but they are how I spend all my time. The other quote on my home page says:
“Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things”. – Robert Brault
The little things and little chunks of time all collected wind up being big themes in my life. These big themes, where I spend all my time, should be time well spent and maybe even have some BHAGs associated with them. I’ll talk about whatever BHAGs I have connected to each of those topics at any time.
Let’s connect on whatever social media suits you…and talk about all of the above!
