While out in New Mexico we were “in the neighborhood” so we drove out into the middle of nowhere to Fort Union National Monument. In the neighborhood in New Mexico means “within a pretty long drive.” Fort Union was a fort along the Santa Fe Trail (near Watrous in Mora County). I couldn’t believe how big the ruins were. They sit out in the wide-open surrounded by the nearby mountains with wagon wheel ruts leading in from all directions. After exploring we headed back to meet the girls for a Lotsaburger and to hike up a mountain to an old turquoise mine. No children were lost into the mineshaft in the making of this video!
